Applying and Activating German Toll-Free Numbers

In Germany, Toll-Free numbers are directly assigned to individuals and companies by the National Regulator (BNetzA(link takes you to an external page)). Once BNetzA assigns you a Toll-Free number it can be activated by Twilio for you. The activation fee per Toll-Free Number is USD 3.00.

Step 1: Apply to BNetzA

BNetzA has published a guide(link takes you to an external page) on applying for German Toll-Free numbers.

When submitting an application, you may list your desired number and up to four alternatives selected from the list of available numbers(link takes you to an external page). In the event that you do not choose a number or the numbers you have chosen are unavailable BNetzA will randomly choose one for you.

The application can be made online, or the application form can be mailed or faxed to BNetzA. Please note that if you apply online a signed application must either be faxed or mailed to BNetzA to the following address and fax number:

  • Mailing Address:
    Bundesnetzagentur
    Dienstleistungszentrum 22 Nürnberg
    Standort Fulda
    Marquardstr. 27-29
    36039 Fulda
    Germany
  • Fax: +49 (0)180 3 11 0900

BNetzA will issue you an invoice for the Toll-Free number. In the event that you do not pay the invoice when due BNetzA will not issue you the Toll-Free number. Once you have paid the invoice BNetzA will send you a number allocation letter ("Zuteilungsbescheid") listing your new number.

Step 2: Activating Your Toll-Free Number
